On the longest night of the year, Chancellor De la Riva rides into Montecanela with twelve halberdiers and an order: collect debts the valley has already paid, or shut every workshop at dawn. Maya and Eric search the ledgers for the toll-road trick; Lucas and Celia light a square with sun-wax that no blizzard can put out; Alba and Dorian warm the paving stones with the breath of the little dragon Chispa; and Noemí and Elías climb the snowfield path by night to fetch the only receipts that can save the charter.
